3. After all of the organisms in your population die off, it will tell you that your game is over. Record the number in the top right-hand box that says how many years your population survived.
4. Reply to the assigned topic to report your number.
5. After reporting your survival years, write 2-4 sentences summarizing the game/ explaining how it modeled evolution via natural selection.
(By the way, I don't know what's up with Darwin's voice. It's weird, I know.)

I learned that it is very important to have a wide variety of traits in a population. I had to choose three mutations to start off with. In the game, there were different obstacles that species in real life might have to face. This game was a prime example of natural selection. The organisms with the best traits for the challenge survived, while those lacking the trait died. This game was entertaining and I learned a lot! (P.S. Darwin's voice is VERY weird!)
My population of organisms survived 1 million years! I'm so happy that it makes me wanna dance (awkwardly)! This game modeled evolution via natural selection very well, and it showed that a population of species needs to be diverse in order to survive. If the population of species was not diverse or suited to its environment enough and was instead uniform, then they would all have died from whatever threatened their existence or from not being able to reach their food source. However, if the population of species was diverse and a threat came, then at least some of the organisms would survive and reproduce to pass on their genes and traits to the next generation. Those organisms without the necessary trait to survive would die. That cycle would continue over and over again, and the species would thrive in its changing environment. You could say that this game was part of my 'wildest dreams' and totally not out of 'style'.
Well... They all died after 500,000 years. Though it's not too much of a surprise considering I started with mostly similar traits. The game does do a good job modeling natural selection. The one's best fit to an environment do better than the ones that are not. Then, in turn, the population fills more with those suited to survive. However, genetic diversity is very important to a species survival. Without it, there are not enough variations to produce a population that can survive quick or rapid changes in the environment or community. As with this game, if the species is not properly adapted or varied enough, it will not survive the new changes.
During this game you had to choose species that you thought fit the environment the species would be living in, and boy did you need to pick the right species because the game would throw anything at you. This game is very accurate to natural selection, because if your species does not have the right adaptations to fit the hardships coming at them, then they won't live and die off. Also it is very important to have a diverse ecosystem, because you do not want all the organisms to be wiped out by one hardship.
I like how it modeled evolution. It had unexpected natural disasters that hindered the populations survival, so it would either die or mutate to have another adaptation. My species almost died die off though because it got too hot, but i used the life preserver (mutation) to have the fur removed.

My species survived 944,444 years (so close to 1 million!)
You basically have to pick diverse variations for them to survive, because you never know what will happen to your species. I played it a few times and even though I had traits that were very beneficial in the environment, my species still died. So, it probably could have done a slightly better job because I had mostly desired traits in my species, but they all still died off.
The game was very interesting. First of all, we had to pick three organisms of different traits. We were told that we had a life preserver so we could choose a different organism so it could "adapt. The first environmental challenge was extreme cold. My population unfortunately did not adapt fast enough. My population only last for 694,444 years.
My species survived for 388,888 years (not very long, I know). This was probably due to the fact that I did not choose the widest range of adaptations. When a disease started spreading through the population, none of the organisms survived since the adaptations I chose weren't helping in that situation. I feel that it accurately models natural selection in the sense that one disease can be enough to wipe out a population, or even species, if they are not readily equipped with the variations they need to protect themselves. Another thing that I felt was very accurate was that the traits an organism may be given may not be the most effective in protecting them from what's up ahead... I learned that the hard way in this game.
My species did not survive that long because my species did not have enough wide range of variation for my organisms. The climate became very, very cold but my species was not ready for it I needed my population to adapt to the environment but the animals that might be able to survive and reproduce but they died. So the species couldn't survive and that ultimately leads to extinction
The game required that you pick organisms with different traits, to try to survive the changing environment around your species through natural selection. This game showed the importance of natural selection, because to survive for the longest time possible, you have to have a wide variety of traits, which would provide a wider window for natural selection in a species to help it survive longer.
My species survived 916666 years. The point of the game was to choose three certain traits I would like my population to have and have it attempt to survive against many hardships. The hardships caused my species to end up dying out because it lacked variation and traits that can support survival in some situations. This game showed me that even if an organism in a population is resistant to one thing doesn't mean its able to survive against another thing, so it is beneficial to have a variation in a species to ensure that at least a few organisms will have the right adaption to withstand a certain crisis and keep the species living. A species really needs billions of different variations to be able to simply survive a few generations.
I was a survivor. My species survived for one million years. Natural selection is the process by which organisms with favorable traits will more likely survive to mate and pass of their traits. A variation I chose died out as soon as the game began because it's traits were not favorable in the environment. This is similar to reality; some variations within a species often are seen less in a population because the variation inhibits the survival of individuals with the traits of the variation. This is natural selection. I very much enjoyed the game and thought it reflected the true process of natural selection.
The object of this game is for your species to survive for 1 million years. In the beginning of the game you are allowed to pick three organisms that have different adaptations (mutations) that are fit for a certain environment. The game would then randomly simulate an environmental change whether it was a natural disaster or a major change in climate. Based on your picks it would allow the better suited organisms to survive and thrive, while the organisms that weren’t suited for the conditions would die out. It does a great job at making the player contemplate over what adaptations to choose and which would allow the species to survive for 1 million years. It made me realize all the things that could go wrong in an environment and all the different factors that go into helping a species survive.
My species survived 611,111 years. This game does a good job modeling natural selection because it shows the kind of circumstances that could cause a species to die out if they do not adapt. For example, my creatures all had very long necks and did really well until the climate became cooler which caused many to die because they were not adapted to the environment.
My species survived 722,222 years. The game symbolized natural selection very well. You had to pick a great variety of different adaptations that best allowed the organism to survive at the time. The game allowed me to use a live saver that was a mutation. This helpful mutation helped the species to live longer due to natural selection. The game also shows that if a species does not adapt to a sudden change in the environment then the species will eventually die out. I was out of life savers, so I could not introduce a trait well suited to the environment.
My species survived 861,111 years. This game demonstrates natural selection well because it shows the phenotypic frequencies at each step in the survival period, showing how thy population wilt change, thus having more of one trait present than another, and then changing when a new environmental factor be introduced. The main reason my population died out was for the land got much colder and my species could not survive without fur coats. There were so few individuals with fur that they could not reproduce quickly enough to restore the population. 'Tis an example of how natural selection occurs, killing off those without traits necessary for survival.

My species survived 916,66 years. This game was very good at show casing natural selection. You had to pick a set of variations to help your species adapt to environmental change. Each variation helps you survive a specific situation and if you don't have the right adaptation your species will die. You are also allowed life savers in the form of mutations. This allows you to try to get the right adaptation to survive in the new environment.
Unfortunately, my species only survived 555,555 years (I think I could have done much better). This is because I forgot to choose enough organisms with adaptations that would help them survive. They made it through the monster, but couldn’t stand the cold. All the organisms in my species tragically died off before they could reproduce to keep the population alive through their offspring. Just like natural selection in real life, the species needed to have variation in order to keep up with the changing environment.
My species survived for a million years! What I learned is that you have to have genetic variation in your population to survive. You had to pick your adaptations and you could get life saver cards which were mutations. This was very helpful because during natural selection, your organism has to change with its environment or else it will die. Overall I think this is a very accurate representation of what natural selection looks like.
My species survived for 1 million years! It was the happiest of times in that kingdom. The adaptations that I picked were divers and helped the species survive for the longest time! Predators, disease, and an ice age couldn't even attack my organism to extinction. I think the natural selection is represented well in this game, and it shows what probably happens.
Additionally, what was Mr. Darwin saying?

My species survived for 1 million years. In the game, it made you choose 3 different variations in a species. They had to survive many real environmental conditions for a million years or more. It simulated natural selection by having the ones that had the best adaptations for that environment survive.
I survived 694,444 years. This game modeled natural selection, because there was variation at first. Then, a problem arose and only the fittest survived and reproduced. Then, as the species faced more problems, if it didn't have the traits necessary for survival, the species died out. Just like it natural selection, the initial variation helped it have a higher chance of survival. Only the ones with the right traits went on to the "next round" or problem.

My species survived 611,111 years, I didnt have much diversity to begin with though. I learned that it was important to have genetic diversity instead of trying to specialize in one field. having genetic diversity means when a disaster or great filter occurs, some will still be able to live on. For a species to survive, it needs to adapt and be genetically diverse to react to great disasters

My species survived for one million years! This game definitely helped me understand natural selection. At the beginning, you had to chose three mutations to begin with. As the game continued, species with the best traits would survived and thrive, while others died off. This game modeled the real world natural selection very well.
My species survived for a million years! This was a fun game to play. In the beginning, you ad to choose three different animals that you thought would survive the living conditions. However, there were climate charges and other twists during the survival of your species. It shows that you have to have a lot of genetic diversity in order for your species to survive a long time.
This game proved that not all mutations are beneficial, or bad. At the beginning you had to choose three mutations and throughout the course of the game, the environment would throw a new problem at you, and the ones with the best traits would survive and pass it on to their children. Maybe in the future, this trait that was originally very helpful, will become very un-needed in the environment. I believe that this game was a very good representation of natural selection in the wild.
I had to try over 20 times to get my species to survive for over a million years, despite trying to make my choices as variegated as possible. All in all, I think the game modeled natural selection very well. However, evolution via natural selection was not modeled. There was not a very big change in the way the species looked. Yes, there were changes in what variations were present, but overall, I believe the species remained constant. Despite this, this game taught me a lot about how to make a species survive, mainly by showing through testing that it's bad to just pick all of the funny-looking ones.

My species survived 1 million years... after 1 million tries...
This game was quite a simplified version of what Charles Darwin viewed as natural selection. This is because of the inclusion of a manual selection of traits that may or may not affect its ability to survive. Along with this, I gained knowledge upon the idea of mutations and not all mutations can benefit the environment they live in as this environment is constantly changing due to mother nature's hand in all the mess. Overall, this game taught me to understand that ecosystems are constantly changing and it is random if your species will survive or not based on the selection of traits paired with the climate of the ecosystem. - CHE

My species survived 1 million years. This game showed how natural selection works in different environments. It also proved that mutations can be good are bad to the species depending on what it is. Plus in the game you needed to have a lot of genetic diversity to live longer.

My species lasted only 722,222 years. This game is a fun way to learn evolution and natural selection. This games shows your species reproducing and changing and creating new genetic variations. The species that is not able to survive will die off quickly and the other species will reproduce and takeover. However, when a natural disaster occurs, you must use a lifesaver and bring genetic diversity into the population so that the species will be able to get past the disaster. This game shows that the species with the genes that do not help them survive in their environment die off, while the other organisms that are well-adapted to their environment thrive and reproduce.
